Other recent concepts were developed by Richard Florida,
from Carnegie Mellon University in the US. Florida wrote
“The Rise of the Creative Class” in 2002 and
“The Flight of the Creative Class” in 2005.
Richard Florida focused on the “Creative Economy”
concept by writing on the educational, social and cultural
aspects that help attract talents related to the “Creative
Economy”. His concept is broad and encompasses,
under the expression “Creative Economy”,
all the professionals who offer services based on knowledge.
Taking into consideration the fact that each organization
and country develops different scopes for the subject,
our view is that the “Creative Economy”
must necessarily include all the services related to
knowledge and intellectual skills, and cannot be restricted
only to the so-called “Creative Industries”
or “Cultural Industries”, and are therefore
not restricted to the original concepts on Copyrights,
Patents, Trademarks and Design. Thus, the broadened
“Creative Economy” concept encompasses the
following items, in addition to the items referred to
above:
- Education
- Scientific Activities
- Research and Development
“Instituto da Economia Criativa” consider
that ideas, imagination, creativity and innovation are
concepts that apply to any organization in any economic
activity. |
